The Bermuda Health Council Announced the Back to Business Initiative and Community Giveaways

  • May 31, 2021

The Bermuda Health Council announced the Back to Business Community Giveaway on Monday, 31st May 2021, in collaboration with local businesses to thank those who have been vaccinated since early this year and those that will do so in the coming days.

To learn more, watch the full video from our press conference. This video was recorded by Bermuda Broadcasting.

See Dr. Ricky Brathwaite, Health Council CEO full statement below.

Good afternoon and happy Monday to all.

My name is Ricky Brathwaite and I am the Chief Executive for the Bermuda Health Council and Project Manager for the Close to Home Mobile Vaccination Programme.

Joining me today are: Stephen Todd, Bermuda Hotel Association.

For the last 4.5 weeks the Close to Home Mobile Vaccination Programme has been going to various communities across the island to give our residents easier access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

During that time nurses, doctors, pharmacists and volunteers have provided over 2200 vaccinations with over 1700 of those being individuals getting their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Over the next several weeks we anticipate thousands more doses being given through this programme. Each person who has come out has brought us to the home stretch of our journey towards a level of community immunity that will allow us to return to a more pre-pandemic normal. Today I am pleased to announce an added benefit to our vaccination programme, the Back to Business Community Giveaways.

Over the next ten days, local businesses have pledged their support to the vaccination programme and put forward some amazing prizes to thank those who have been vaccinated since early this year and those that will do so in the coming days.

Thank you to the Bermuda Hotels Association and Aspen Re for their generous contributions. The community spirit that has been seen from our local businesses at our vaccine sites has been incredible. The Bermuda Health Council sees this Back to Business Community Giveaway as another chance to thank the community for their patience and resilience during the last 18 months. We know that this time has been challenging financially and emotionally for many.

Starting today, prize drawings will happen every day through June 8th. One drawing per day will be for those everyone who received the vaccine jab from the time vaccines were administered starting from January 8th. The other drawing will be for those that received their first vaccine jab the previous day.

More specifically, if you received your first vaccine jab before today, you will have an opportunity for each of the next 10 days to win a prize. If you receive your vaccine today (or any day between now and June 8th), you will be part of the pool of individuals who received their first dose who will have the chance to win a prize of the day. Winners will be selected through a random draw using the registration number that is given at the various vaccine centers in the vaccine registration system. To protect confidentiality, winners will be notified by public health officials.

In advance of the Back to Business Community Giveaway, we would like to thank those who have been generous in supporting the Close to Home Mobile vaccine programme.

Thank you to: AXA XL, Willis Towers Watson, Chubb, Zurich, The Argus Group, Frontline Foundation, Red Laser, Kenny’s Kitchen, Auto Solutions, Market Place, each of our DJs, Ariel Corporate Charters for the minibus services, taxi drivers, and the multitude of volunteers and location staff for their resources and time.

These partnerships that have formed throughout the pandemic are vital as we move toward a better state of health and wellness within our population. For businesses or individuals who would like to contribute to the Back to Business Community Giveaways or more broadly contribute to the island’s public health initiatives, you can send the Bermuda Health Council an email at healthcouncil@bhec.bm or phone us at 292-6420.

The Health Council thanks each of the team members at the vaccine centers and the clinical staff throughout this island who have been continuously providing mental, emotional and physical health support to our island during this pandemic.

I must recognize and thank everyone who stepped forward to help make a difference in our community.
I will now invite each of the businesses and organizations represented here today to provide more detail about the prizes they are offering through the programme.
